KINGWESTON HOUSE
This Grade II listed, country house is now part of Millfield School. Built of local Blue Lias ashlar blocks, with Doulting stone dressings the house a good example of refined Georgian architecture from the mid 1800’s.
The client was concerned about the ongoing deterioration and delamination of the Blue Lias stone facades. Corbel conducted a Condition Survey to understand the extent of repairs necessary., followed by a series of trial repairs by Corbel’s masonry conservator. These trials established the most sensitive, yet robust, approach to maintain the maximum of original fabric yet stabilise the failing Lias. The trial’s findings were then incorporated into a Schedule of Works and Specification and agreed with the local Conservation Officer.
