The Project

This long term multi phased project, started with a Feasibility Study to try and understand how to make better use of the house, outbuildings and gardens to suit the new owners varied ambitions, and give budget costs to understand how the work could be best phased.

The house, with classical Georgian proportions, had been extended to the west blocking much light into the kitchen at the heart of the house. To unlock this a new Oriel opens up the kitchen and new dining space to the south and west – gaining views across a courtyard garden. A much more usable space results. The kitchen is light and really brought into a unified living space. The true heart is freed up and brought into connection.

Reintroducing an entrance hallway recreates the Georgian cellular room layout.

Unfortunately, an accidental burst water main pipe had caused serious flood damage throughout the house. Corbel carried out enabling works to strip back affected areas and the first phase of work repaired the flood damage and reconfigured the upstairs layout to improve bathrooms, energy efficiency and fire protection.

A second phase started shortly after which involved complete ground floor renovation and creating the Oriel which made the whole house work in such a better joined up way.

Beautiful choices of decorative mouldings, radiators, fireplaces, switches and fittings really finish the effect.
